This is a hand portable NMR (Nuclear Magnetic Resonance) logging tool. It is used to directly measure hydrogen content in a material. It is also used extensively in both medicine (MRI’s use the same technology) and in chemistry (e.g. spectrometric analysis used for identification of organic compounds).
