Clean Core's thorium reactor type is a thorium-uranium fuel for existing pressurized heavy water reactors (PHWRs), like CANDU reactors. This technology, called ANEEL fuel (Advanced Nuclear Energy for Enriched Life), is designed to be a more economical and waste-resistant alternative to current nuclear fuels, utilizing both thorium and high-assay low-enriched uranium (HALEU). It is a fuel development rather than a new reactor design, intended to be compatible with certain commercial reactors already in operation.
