The Dry Abrasive Blasting (DAB) process has been used extensively within industry for the removal of coatings (such as paint), removal of corrosion product (such as rust) and the surface preparation of metals to allow paint to adhere to them. There are two main types of dry abrasive blasting processes (sand / shot blasting as they are more commonly known), used within the nuclear industry for decontamination processes.
