A surfactant coats each tiny particle to prevent them from clumping together due to magnetic or Van der Waals forces, ensuring they remain evenly suspended in the liquid. When a magnet is brought close, the liquid conforms to the shape of the magnetic field, often forming a characteristic "spiked" pattern due to the balance of magnetic forces and surface tension.
