SURGENT Extremity

Overview
The operating room has long been synonymous with technical perfection – highly complex, location-bound, and requiring extensive infrastructure. SURGITENT reverses this logic: "The operating room comes to the patient" was the guiding design principle. The result is a mobile, sterile room-within-a-room system that makes surgical procedures possible wherever they are needed: in doctors' offices, outpatient clinics, or emergency rooms, far removed from traditional operating room infrastructure. What makes it special: SURGITENT Extremity is very lightweight at around 1.5 kg, compactly packed, and can be set up without an external power supply. The innovative system is based on a polygonal frame structure that can be selectively inflated and stiffened using a foot pump. This creates a clearly structured, enclosed space with an integrated airlock system through which sterile instruments can be inserted. The glovebox-style ports enable contamination-free procedures directly at the patient's bedside. Especially in time-critical or resource-limited situations, the system can become the crucial interface between availability and safety. "Design for extreme situations doesn't mean reduction at any cost," emphasizes the development team. "It means that every element must fulfill a function and simultaneously be intuitively understood." Therefore, the entire design language of SURGITENT follows the logic of hygienic safety, ease of use, and clear processes. The material—translucent, puncture-resistant EVA film—is lightweight, robust, and pleasantly soft to the touch. It creates a light-filled atmosphere and a high degree of visual contact, which ultimately strengthens patient confidence. SURGITENT was developed in a multi-year iterative process in close collaboration with physicians from various specialties. With each prototype iteration, the product became more precise, and its handling more intuitive. The jury's verdict: "SURGITENT cleverly combines functionality, mobility, and safety. The materials and inflatable structure complement each other to create a solution that is as simple as it is ingenious, making the system compact, easily transportable, and quickly deployable. Especially in crisis scenarios or structurally weak regions, SURGITENT offers a new possibility for surgical care – with minimal effort but maximum impact."
