Overview
A pressure-activated sealant is a specialized fluid compound that remains completely liquid inside a pressurized system - such as a valve, hydraulic line, or oil wellbore - until it encounters a leak site where a sudden drop or differential in pressure triggers it to polymerize and solidify. The sealant stays liquid while moving through healthy pipes or control lines, meaning it will not clog normal equipment. When the fluid reaches an opening or crack, the escaping pressure creates a localized pressure drop. This pressure change causes monomers and polymers in the mixture to cross-link and plate out, acting much like blood clotting at a wound. The reaction builds a robust, flexible solid right across the leak path while the leftover product inside the healthy system remains inert and liquid.
