Overview
Mainly applied to water pipelines and marine engineering to simulate a frictionless boundary. Microscopic air bubbles or a continuous gas film are injected through a porous pipe liner. This sets up a gaseous "fluid cushion" that decouples the dense liquid from the solid wall. Because gases have vastly lower viscosity than liquids, turbulent drag and skin-friction are reduced dramatically.
