This is deferred dismantling. It postpones the final removal of controls for a longer period, usually in the order of 40 to 75 years. The facility is placed into a safe storage configuration to allow for radioactive decay to make dismantling significantly easier. The safe enclosure requires regular monitoring and maintenance during the deferred period.
