Numerous options for long-term nuclear waste management have been considered in the past such as: long-term above ground storage, disposal in outer space, rock-melting, disposal at subduction zones, sea disposal, sub seabed disposal, disposal in ice sheets and deep well injection. Many are not permitted by international agreements.
