Overview
Cermets (ceramic-metal composites) is a composite material made of ceramic particles bonded with a metal. It combines the high hardness, heat resistance, and chemical stability of ceramics with the toughness, electrical conductivity, and plasticity of metals. For nuclear waste, it can be used to immobilize radioactive waste products by binding the hazardous elements into stable ceramic phases while using the surrounding metal to safely conduct decay heat or resist corrosion.
